Sustainable Development
"Sustainable Development" is defined as that which meets the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
As the United States' representative to the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO), AAES supports national and international efforts to disseminate information on sustainable technologies that promote the use of recyclable materials, reduce consumption of energy and non-renewable resources and also reduce waste generation. These technologies include new manufacturing processes and equipment, and regenerative/recyclable products. AAES helps to disseminate this information through the WFEO Committee on Transfer, Sharing and Assessment of Technology (COMTECH) and the Engineers Forum for Sustainable Development.
Policy Objectives
- Promote and encourage widespread sustainable development education for the profession and the public
- Support sustainable development legislation that integrates environmental and social needs into economic planning and development
- Foster technology research and development beneficial to the achievement of sustainable development
