AAES operates on four main tracks: one in communications, one in public policy, another in international issues, and the fourth, focusing on workplace trends and data, the Engineering Workforce Commission.

Communications at AAES has two main objectives that complement each other. The first, communications in the traditional sense of the word serves as a collector and disseminator of information on activities, ideas, and successes of AAES members. The second, public awareness provides a greater understanding and appreciation of how engineering contributes to the economy, environment, and the security and social wellbeing of people in the United States and around the world.

AAES's Engineering Workforce Commission monitors engineering job statistics that help universities, corporations, and government set salary, hiring, enrollment, and degree trends in the marketplace.

International at AAES fosters international opportunities for addressing collective U.S. interests and concerns in the global engineering community.

Public policy at AAES advocates positions and interests to policymakers and the public on behalf of the engineering community and AAES member societies. It does so as a unified organization and a credible source for engineering.
